After you uninstall the bloatware and stop a few startup programs in msconfig the laptop is perfect for everyday use. The screen is amazing and the touchscreen is very responsive.

Like the features of the laptop (this is my first) but the battery life really sucks only seem to get a couple of hours on it. Not a good choice if you travel a lot and depend on the battery lasting for you flight

This was a horrible experience from someone who usually raves about AMAZON. I am so upset that I had to write a review. I ordered 2 different laptops. The first came and could not hold a charge. Returned and reordered thinking it was a glitch. NOPE. Second package arrives and it was banged up. The laptop was in a box barely bigger than it with a tiny amount of brown paper wrapped around tit. OK?? Seriously? A $800 laptop and your saving maybe $10 on packaging it correctly. The inside box was also banged up, so I knew I was in trouble. Sure enough the LCD is broken - the only way to get a clear, clean picture is to hold both sides of the screen with your hands. Only problem - how do you use your laptop if both hands are busy holding the screen. I am hot, livid, and never recommending AMAZON again!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?)
I have used several laptops for work Dell, HP, Toshiba, and old Sony VAIOs, but I was purchasing this computer for my personal use and convenience. This is by far the easiest laptop to use.
When I opened the box, I immediately opened it and started to use the laptop. The setup and configuration time was extremely fast. I don't think it took me more than 5 minutes.
It came pre-loaded with some programs, most of which I will never use (I will replace it with similar programs I am more familiar with), but plenty of options for video, music, and social medias. See the above description for the included software.
Despite all these programs, my computer did not contain the trial for Microsoft Office as stated. This didn't bother me though because I needed to have the full, installed version anyway.

Here is a quick list of the pros and cons.

Pros:
- Touchscreen! It is simple to use and it is not too sensitive so I am not constantly making mistakes.
- Start Screen Menu looks exactly likely a smart phone. Most of your "Charms" are displayed on a single screen. They are easy to scroll through and to add shortcuts to your apps. If you prefer, you can switch to a traditional desktop and still use either touchscreen or mouse to select icons.
- The sound is the best I have ever heard built in on a laptop. You usually don't expect much with built in speakers but the sound is fairly lout and crisp
- The HD screen is very crisp and the colors are vibrant, so watching movies are really great.
- I haven't had the need to use the customer service/support, but there is an icon on the desktop that allows you to call or connect via web to the a Sony representative.
- The keyboard has a 10 key which is always a plus with me.
- When you close the laptop it immediately puts it in sleep mode. When awaking it from sleep mode, it is true that it only takes seconds to restart it from where you left off. The battery also does not drain when in sleep mode.
- Very long battery life
- 4 USB ports - 2 on each side. This is great because some laptops have the four USB ports right next to or on top of each other preventing you from using all the ports with a larger cord/base.
- Very fast processor. Download speeds are excellent.
- Fingerprints on the touchscreen are not visible with the screen on. When the screen is turned off the fingerprints visible are very minimal.

Cons:
- The laptop is moderate in weight. It is not bulky/heavy, yet it isn't lightweight either.
- The mouse pad area is too large. When typing, I occasionally swipe the palm of my hand on the mouse pad area and I lose my place.
- The mouse is something I need to get used to. I am used to the buttons on the bottom of the pad to right/left click. The mouse does not include this. I often find myself resorting to the touchscreen because I have trouble with the mouse. Also, sometimes the mouse does not recognize my double click, having to repeat multiple times to select an icon/button etc.
- The instructions included are not too detailed. The laptop itself is not too difficult to navigate so instructions may not be needed for some tech savvy people. The layout of the desktop is slightly different than how PCs normally are laid out. Again, I am unable to figure out how to left click the mouse on the desktop to get the same menus I am used to on a PC. This is the first time I used Windows 8. Although, it is basically the same, there are some changes that I myself need to get used to - no fault to Sony and this laptop.

All in all this laptop is easy to use and is great for a first laptop for anyone. This laptop however may be set up a for younger user with several programs/media options for music, video, pictures, and social mediums. Despite this, I still would recommend this product for a person of any age. My mother is in her 70s and she finds the touchscreen easier to use while she is on browsing the internet.

This computer has ONE major flaw......it loses internet availability all the time. The computer itself is fantastic but when it drops your internet feed every 15 minutes it becomes worthless. Do not order.....from what I know now is that most if not all Sony computers have this issue. Can't believe Sony would let something like this happen and not fix before releasing it to the public.

I bought this product with high anticipation.
Pros: 1. Very bright high resolution screen
2. Backlit keyboard
3. Keyboard works like wonder, really smooth and comfortable to type.
Now the cons:
1. The product I got strted trouble on the 3rd day of arrival. The screen turns dark bluish if I move it. I have to align it in one particular angle for the blue tinge to vanish!!!
2. The battery sucks... I get max around 2 to 2.5 hrs while watching videos.
3. The wireless is 'bad'.. At speedtest.net I get max download at 3-4MBPS whereas other old (dell) laptop reaches 9-11MBPS at same spot!
4. The touchpad is least responsive. You have tap really hard for it to respond. Also I had to disable two finger pinch zoom in and out because the computer always zooms when I try to scroll down using 2 fingers!!!
5. Sound is loud but often breaks a lot.
I am returning it asap..!

Sony VAIO Duo SVD13215PXB 13.3-Inch Convertible 2-in-1 Deals

This review is from: Sony VAIO Duo SVD13215PXB 13.3-Inch Convertible 2-in-1 Touchscreen Ultrabook (Carbon Black) (Personal Computers)
First: the Amazon product description isn't accurate. This laptop contains a 256 GB SSD, but no conventional hard drive. (They currently list it with a 500 GB HD, which is not correct.)

The good: this is the laptop I'd been holding out for. It's fast enough and capable enough to run Adobe Photoshop with no problems or to allow me to manipulate a hugely complicated Excel spreadsheet filled with formulas without any noticeable lag. At the same time, it wakes up in less than 2 seconds, and the touchscreen when folded down into tablet position is great for taking notes on. The battery lasts far longer than most laptops, generally giving me 8-10 hours of work before running out. It's shockingly light.

The bad: while the hinge works great, I worry about its long-term sturdiness. The webcam light often stays on, which is creepy. The angle of the screen isn't adjustable, so although the brightness makes it readable from many angles, if you'd like a different angle than the default for ergonomic reasons you're just out of luck.

No buyers remorse on my part a week into having it, but I'd say that the primary audience is people who need high performance, long battery life, a touch screen, and light weight all wrapped up into one package that they're willing to pay a premium for.

UPDATED: It appears to be the case right now that there's no pressure sensitivity for the stylus in Photoshop. That might or might not be a dealbreaker for folks, and it might or might not eventually get fixed with a driver update.

This is a review of the stock version with 8gb RAM and 256gb HDD.

My needs include grading and commenting on papers and exams for graduate school students. I wanted a convertible tablet with digital ink capabilities, that was larger than the typical 11.6 inch tablet. I needed something that could handle very large PDF files, so I could read and mark-up coursebooks in PDF form. Ideally, I would be able to replace my iPad and Macbook Air with one device.

Along the way, I tried the Asus Transformerbook TX300. It was too heavy, lacked the digital pen capability, and too slow in handling large pdf files. (It also had defective keyboard unit). I tried the Samsung ATIV 700t. The ATIV 700t had digital ink, but was as sluggish as the Transformerbook with large PDF files, and the screen was too small at 11.6 inches.

I thought a long time before going with this Sony -- not sure I liked the slider form; concerned about the Wifi problems people seemed to have. But, I went with it, and find it to be extremely useable, and a great fit for my purposes.

The slider format, I've discovered, is far superior to the detachable tablet approach in the Transformerbook and the ATIV 700t. For marking papers in MS WORD, I can easily change from typed comments to handwritten comments, just by sliding from notebook to tablet. It's quick, and simple. Durability may be an issue, but I plan to get Square Trade or some other kind of extended protection.

The unit is light enough that I can and do take it with me to work on a daily basis, as I did with the iPad. It boots up very quickly. Easy to use it to get work done in the subway, or wherever.

I have not had any significant Wifi problems. It gets a signal (though weak) two floors below where the router is, and a strong signal on the floor where the router is. I had considered the version with ATT broadband, but decided I could use the mobile hotspot function of my phone. The Sony connected with that Wifi from my phone just fine as well.

Battery life is great. It's reassuring not to have to worry about the computer losing its charge before I lose interest in doing more work.

I've seen that many observers are questioning whether this Sony has any real market. From my perspective, this Vaio Duo 13 has a great design and set of features for students and teachers.

Of course, some things could be better. The key travel is too shallow. As is true with almost all Windows machines these days, the aspect ratio is not right for reading in portrait mode (something that students and faculty would likely want to do). Windows programs for marking up PDF files are far more cumbersome than is Goodreader for the iPad -- hopefully someone can create a program like Goodreader for Windows 8. (This is not a Sony problem, but something that a person switching from iPad to this might want to consider).

But, again, having a real computer, with real computing power, with a sufficiently large screen, in such a light form, with all my Office and PDF programs, able to handle multiple programs simultaneously without getting bogged down, easily convertible from notebook to tablet, and with the active digitizer -- it's really a great package.

I looking for great laptop and good for tablet. This machine is amazing fast and great responsive in many ways. It can be one of my favorite gadget if it does not have serious Wifi connection problem. I use Apple Time capsule (old version) as my router to internet. Normally, I use my computer, tablet far from it around 15-20 feet, nothing go wrong. All my machine work and run internet extremely fast and never have disconnected problem.

My new Sony Duo 13 is show only 2 bars for Wifi connection (all other devices show 5 full bars) but on top of that they running all download super slow and disconnected from my router occasionally. I have to move my Duo very close to my router, the result is super fast as 10 times as 15 feet away. I try to update all the driver and patch of window 8 by lay it down next to each other.

The result is the same. I have to returned it to AMAZON. sorry.

This will be my second Vaio that I have purchased. The first Vaio I had died because I left it surrounded by a bed blanket over night and it decided to update during that period of time. Thus burning up the processor. This one is a great upgrade. Windows eight was annoying at first but after using the Vaio control center and checking the tutorial it made things so much easier.....Thanks SONY!!!! I was having trouble figuring out how to scroll but the control center showed me that with the new mouse pad you have to use two fingers in order for the mouse pad to recognize you want to scroll.

The computer itself runs windows 8 very smoothly because of the 2.00 Ghz i7. The screen is crystal clear and very bright. I love the illuminated key board it makes typing in the dark so much easier. Another thing that was a bonus for me was I backed up all my files on a hard drive...I plugged it up and the Vaio transferred all my music and pictures effortlessly. The Vaio app "Playmemories home" even organized my pictures in a yearly monthly format.......Say I took a pic in August 12, of 2011. If I click on that specific day on the monthly interface it shows me every pic I took for that day.

I also don't have to worry about the computer over heating anymore because the fan has been moved to the top of the Keyboard right under the screen thus keeping the heat of the laptop away from my skin or any blankets lol.....

I am having so much fun going threw all the different powerful vaio apps and seeing how useful the are.

Excellent buy in my opinion.

I picked the Sony VAIO because it ranked in the top 5 of laptops of its kind, along with the Dell XPS, which is the one I thought I wanted, but couldn't afford. The VAIO actually ranked second (after the Mac). I don't remember who did the rating--I looked at lots of ratings, and decided this one was the one to go with. I was switching from a 10-year-old desktop, which finally died. I have a Dell Inspiron (2008, running Vista), and thought I wanted another Dell, because it would make an easier changeover, and it would have to be replaced eventually. A friend said the Dell XPS was much better hardware than the Inspiron, but I wasn't ready to spend $1400+ on a new laptop. So I was glad to get the VAIO for about $1000 (with no interest for 6 months on an Amazon store card).

The screen resolution is great, and it boots up very fast. It has enough USB ports (many laptops only have one or two, this has four, and I need all of them). In other ways, I've had to work around things. The keyboard initially gave me problems because of some key locations, and because, even though backlit, it was hard to read the letters (I'm not sure why). Now I have it hooked to my old keyboard (that's one USB port, the mouse is another, an external drive is a third, and a memory stick is the fourth). Windows 8 gave me trouble for awhile, but I finally figured out how to work around it (just click on the app that takes you to file explorer and forget about it). I can't say about battery life, since I usually plug it in to use it.

I've had it a month, and have had no problems, so I guess that's a good grade. I love having the touchscreen, even though I rarely use it.

I bought this Sony vaio for 15 premium laptop form Sony direct with many upgrades.
Ever since I received it a month ago I have absolutely no complaints. Quick boot up(5 seconds)
Large hard drive(1TB). Also the aluminum body looks amazing in light. I'm actually surprised how thin it is.
Have to say though moving from windows 7 to 8 has taken some time but with the help of the touchscreen and the vaio control centre it's a breeze.

I will recomend this laptop to anyone who wants the biggest bang for $1000.

The velocity of the WiFi is an issue. My five years Toshiba Satellite works better. It seems that above 100 ft. the signal is lost. I read similar complaints and chat support doesn't help. It would be a great laptop if it would stay connected to wifi. After about 2 months I need to disconnect and reconnect after every time I open it, and about every 10-15 min. The laptop thinks it is connected to the internet but its really not, something to do with this model having faulty wireless cards. The only fix I've seen is to replace the card on your own dime.

On my hyper-expensive Sony Vaio fit running Windows 8, I get regular crashes - I think associated with BlackBerry link. But a known problem since at least January 2013 is that the wifi is appallingly bad. It drops intermittently and fails all the time. Sony know this, but have failed to do anything about it - just google sony vaio wifi fit problems for information...

The worst thing is that Sony have surrounded themselves with layer upon layer of "customer service" people who they have turned into terrible jobsworths with procedures and rules. They have multiple layers, long queues, they stick to the rules, they don't call back when they promise to do so.

Never, ever buy a Sony Vaio - and if you do, make sure you get the onsite warranty, and a spare laptop for when it's away getting repaired..

Sony VAIO T Series SVT13134CXS 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Deals

By John Cox "Author & Troublemaker" (Mount Vernon, WA) -
This review is from: Sony VAIO T Series SVT13134CXS 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Silver) (Personal Computers)
I've really got used to having a touchscreen on my phone and Kindle Fire, but as an author I also really appreciate a proper keyboard. So with that in mind, when it came time to choose a new PC, I decided to plump for the new touchscreen Windows 8 ultrabook from Sony.

My experience started off in rather a bad way, with my first ultrabook lasting a mere two hours before it gave out, never to reboot again. However, the Amazon returns and replacement service was excellent and the very next day I had another ultrabook at my door. This one, it seems, is going to last longer than the first. I've now had it a full 5 days and I've run it through its paces and set everything up on it. I'm using it to write my latest book and also to do all those lovely touchy windows 8 things on the wonderfully clear 13.3" 1366 x 768 touchscreen. My first impressions are that this PC is a gem.

Things I like:
1. Speed of restart from sleep - no more waiting and waiting to start using it. You simply close the lid when you're done and then reopen it when you want to continue. It takes about 2 seconds to be ready to use.
2. The ability to switch between the touchscreen, touchpad and keyboard (all interchangeable) - once you learn all the gestures and shortcuts it's a really quick user experience.
3. The zippiness of it - my previous PC was a three year-old desktop. This ultrabook seems about 6 generations faster.
4. Windows 8 apps - Netflix, Angry Birds, Skype, CNN News and a plethora of other apps run just like they do on an iPad or Kindle fire.
5. It just works - I know, you expect it to work, but sometimes new things can be a little weird.

So far there is nothing I dislike about it (apart from a lack of some Windows 8 apps - but more and more are arriving each day).

I could go on about the battery life, the ports, the keyboard and everything else, but you can read all the technical specs above. the bottom line is would I recommend this PC? Wholeheartedly YES!

Update 8/14/13: I've now had this laptop for 6 months and it's still performing flawlessly. It does a whole lot more than I ever imagined, now that I have attached a second screen to it for when I use it at my desk, as opposed to traveling. Everything I've thrown at it has worked flawlessly. I must admit I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8, but, hey, it is what it is. I love the touchscreen aspect. I love the speed. I love the reliability. Oh, and the battery life!

This review is from: Sony VAIO T Series SVT13134CXS 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Silver) (Personal Computers)
I got this from work about 4 months ago. I think four months is ample time to be able to give an accurate review of this ultrabook. I really wanted to love this laptop, but I don't. It's very sharp and stylish with its black and silver design but almost laughably clumsy.

Allow me to explain. First and foremost you have to hold the bottom whenever you open it because the hinge mechanism is tight and the bottom isn't weighty enough. Secondly, once you have the laptop open the first thing you'll notice is not the lack of an HD screen but rather the strong glare back into your eyes if there is a light nearby. The screen reflects way too much light and I find myself moving the display back and forth throughout the day just so I can read. Thirdly, the keyboard (although I have to admit that I am getting more used to it) feels carpal tunnel inducing. There is simply very little give to the keys so you feel as if you're tapping away on a flat surface (although touch screen tablets are not uncomfortable). I prefer the feedback you get from other keyboards (such as Dell's XPS line). Additionally, the keys are not smooth but feature a slight rough texture that feels rather cheap.

The touch screen is a cool feature but I must admit that I never use it. It's just not comfortable to hang your arm in front of your screen for an extended period of time. I use a wireless Logitech mouse because the trackpad is annoying as well. It doesn't recognize when you lift one of your fingers off of it unless you take both of them off. This becomes very annoying when you're scrolling (with two fingers) and you take one off so that you can move to cursor to click on something and it continues scrolling down!

I should also mention that about two months after I had it, the touch screen input stopped working. I tried all kinds of troubleshooting, even formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows and all drivers but in the end it was a hardware issue. I must give credit where credit is due and after talking to Sony they instructed me to bring the laptop to any UPS store (I didn't have to wrap it) and they would overnight it to their service center in Texas. I received several calls from Sony informing me of the current repair status while it was gone (very unexpected). Within two weeks I had the laptop back in working condition.

My final gripe is that even though I have Windows set to sleep when I close the lid, about once, sometimes twice a week, I get home after leaving work and find the laptop burning hot because it never went to sleep.

We ordered about 15 of these for the office and the feelings are mutual among all of us.

All in all, for the price it is not a terrible laptop but I do think you can find better. It's doing the job as a work laptop but I would never buy it on my own nor could I recommend it to anyone.

This review is from: Sony VAIO T Series SVT13134CXS 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Silver) (Personal Computers)
For me it came down to this Sony T Series and Asus Vivobook. Price point is very similar; I give Sony the slight nod with hardware specifications, the quality of keyboard and the ability to swap out the battery. Upgrading RAM on both laptops is possible, but I am unsure of the added value. If you are running something that needs 8GB RAM, you shouldn’t be buying an ultrabook.

For the keyboard, both feel shallow but the Sony’s keyboard is a bit more comfortable (at least to me). Since this laptop is fairly new, check out the reviews on the old non-touchscreen T Series. It is exactly the same except for the screen and upgraded hinges. The screen still bounces when touched, but stays in place and feels solid (so far).

The laptop has a quality feel. If you press around the casing you can flex the topcase around the “Tab” and “Caps Lock” keys, everywhere else it feels solid. Also, the screen has a slight flex but does not seem to be a negative, I believe the touch screen design beefed up the sturdiness from the prior years model.

The design has a business type feel, square edges, I think it might keep its style longer than the Vivobook. The Sony is simple and understated.

One concern I had was the placement of the touchpad. I prefer this to be centered below the space bar to avoid activating the mouse cursor with your palm while typing (on this model it is centered on the topcase), but that does not seem to be an issue on this laptop. Even with contact, the touchpad seems to ignore the touch of the palm. Fan noise, yes the fan is audible on start-up and when resources are heavy, but it hasn’t bothered me too much. With any ultrabook relying on a fan for cooling you are going to have this issue.

If you are coming from a Windows 7 environment expect a learning curve. I have read reviews of people who hate Windows 8 and at times the multiple gestures can prove frustrating. Give yourself some time; understand the four points of control on the touchscreen to navigate your system. The windows button is your friend if you get lost. The less you use your keyboard, the better the Windows 8 environment becomes.

I see these ultrabooks as the best of both worlds. A computer that can function as a tablet, but still gives you the tools needed for business use. For the cost (under 700) you are not taking that big a gamble, avoid spending too much on higher grade laptops, use this for a year or two and upgrade again. Spending over $700 on an ultrabook seems like a waste of money to me.

I really like this machine. I was in the market for a new laptop for some time an decided a touchscreen would best serve my purpose. I'm an artist so working with the touch is a dream come true.
I wasn't sure about windows 8 when it came out but after playing with it for a while decided it was in fact a good OS. Just different. I can see where it isn't optimal for a business but it suites my needs.
But don't let windows 8 turn you away from a good quality computer. There is a program that will allow you to use Windows 8 like Windows 7, Vista, XP, or even 98! And it's free to boot! Just look up in any search engine Classic Shell and you'll find it. Classicshell.net.

Let me start by saying that I am a computer technician, and was looking for a touchscreen laptop that was fast out of the box. This VAIO hit the mark. It has a fast processor, fast RAM, and a semi-fast hard drive. Out of the box, booted up in about 15 seconds (after the initial setup).

Now day 1 after getting it set up and configured the way I like, I replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive - Kingston's 120GB HyperX drive - extremely fast. I cloned the hard drive to the SSD, and was able to boot up in less than 7 seconds with Windows 8 - just what I was hoping for.

All and all, this laptop is a must have if you are looking for fast, and touchsreen. Yes, it does pick up fingerprints, but I put a screen protector on it, and it reduced the glare, and keeps away those prints. So don't let the other reviewers steer you wrong, as this is a sure fire speed deamon, especially if you plan on installing a SSD.

Thumbs up from the PC Whiz!

I am writing to you from my Sony Vaio which I will be returning tomorrow. After less than three months of careful usage, the hard disk is failing and causing issues. The mouse is too sensitive and frustrating to use, the screen produces a lot of glare, the finish attracts an insane amount of fingerprints. Up until the hard drive failed I was fairly satisfied but a hard drive failure on a $700.00 laptop? There are no excuses for that.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?)
I recently got this Sony Vaio ultrabook and thought in reviewing it I would compare some of is attributes to my Lenovo Yoga 13 since a lot of people will be weighing the plusses and minuses of these two notebooks when making their purchasing decision.

First, I found the Sony computer a joy to use, very responsive and easy to carry.

The Sony weighs 37.7 oz, while the Lenovo weighs in at 53.6 oz.
Although both computers have 13 inch screens (13.3 inches for the Sony), the footprint of the Sony notebook is actually smaller. It is about 1/2 inches smaller in width and length. (Keep in mind that I'm talking about the actual external dimensions of the notebook...not the screen size.).

My Sony has 128 GB Solid State Drive, while my Lenovo has 256 GB SSD. You can get the Sony with 256 GB as well if you choose. If you get the 128 GB keep in mind that you'll have 71.8 GB left over on the C drive when you get the computer. After you load Microsoft Office and do all the updates, you'll have about 66.9 GB free on C drive. But you have 2 USB 3.0 slots and an SD slot on the right side of the computer if you need additional hard disk space for photographs, videos and music.

I prefer the keyboard on the Lenovo, as I find the Sony has less feel, and is a bit slippery. But the Sony has a nice lighting if you are going to use it in a poorly lit area. Lenovo does not have a lit up keyboard.

The Windows Experience score on the Sony is 6.2, while the Lenovo is 4.8. But in real life, I didn't find any appreciable speed difference when using the computers. Both are able to reboot Windows 8 in about 20-24 seconds. The Sony had a 4 second edge in this regard.

Both screens have very nice color rendition and text depiction. The Sony screen is much more limited in how you view it. It tilts about 5 degrees back from straight up. That should work for most people, but I found it a bit limiting. My preference is if it could tilt a bit further back for more comfortable viewing. The Lenovo Yoga will flip over completely and operate as a tablet, or tilt in a manner where the screen is propped up and the keyboard faces down, or just simply tilt back to any viewing angle you wish. In this regard, the Lenovo is much more versatile...which is where it gets its "Yoga" name.

The touchscreen on both computers worked very well. But keep in mind that some people, including me have reported issues with the Lenovo touchscreen. I had two separate Lenovo Yogas. In one the touchscreen worked perfectly (I kept that one). The second had an erratic, sometimes nonfunctioning touch screen that made the computer unusable. Others have reported similar issues with the Lenovo Yoga.

The trackball is nicer on the Lenovo. It glides much more smoothly than the Sony, and has a better/larger area to click or right click the pad. The Sony trackpad functions decently enough. But it feels rougher.

I removed the Kaspersky internet security that comes with the Sony, because the updates are incredibly slow...watching a snail crawl across a football field would be faster. This is not a Sony issue, so don't let it detract you from the Sony at all. I noticed this issue with Kaspersky software I bought two years ago, and was hoping they remedied the problem. They haven't. Instead I use Windows Defender that comes with the computer.

A couple of issues with the Sony. The screen sometimes flickers or dims momentarily when you put your hand toward the screen in the center of the computer, or when you touch a link or menu choice. Not sure why this happens. You can certainly live with this, as it is quite momentary. But it is annoying.

Second issue is that some people have reported they find the fan to be noisy. Normally I don't hear it at all. But once in a while it sounds like the background sound of waves crashing at the beach. Not bad...not an issue for me. Maybe an issue for others.

I intend to make this a rolling review, adding more feedback the more I use the computer in the next few months.

There are a LOT of things to love about this laptop. The most immediate and obvious thing is the weight! This laptop is SO LIGHT.

Pros:

Super light
Great keyboard
Awesome trackpad
Nice monitor
3 USB's 2 in device, and one in AC adapter for charging of devices
Touchscreen is the only way to go with Windows 8

Cons:

PRICE
Heats up quickly, fan runs often
Hard drive

Even though there are more pros than cons, the cons are more important. This laptop is 105GB, it comes with 65GB available. So either this can't be your primary laptop or you need to add an external hard drive which adds both cost and weight.

The heating issue is really annoying. I've checked the settings, and called Sony to confirm all is as it should be. If you are watching a TV program or playing a game, after about 10 minutes the computer starts to heat up and the fan kicks in, and runs until you are done with that activity. And if it's literally on your lap, it's hot.

For the money, I just can't see choosing this as your only laptop. It's great for travel and light usage, but I don't believe much beyond that.

Edited to add: I don't use this laptop every day, and for some reason, every time I go to use it I have problems with the wireless, and I have to run the troubleshooter. It works fine once that's done, but it's a step I wish I didn't have to take every time.

Received the product a week ago, and it's still going strong. I previously had a Samsung series 9, and it had served me extremely well for the past year until it passed away due to some unknown reasons. With windows 8.1 coming out, I figured out rather than troubling me myself to try to repair my laptop, I might as well buy a touch screen, Haswell laptop. Boy, did it not disappoint. Even without the fixes from Windows 8.1, with the touch screen I have become ever more productive in this laptop. Sure, ignoring the touch screen is an option, but with the touch screen I can multitask so fast that I stopped doing productive work from my more powerful desktop. I'm not saying this product isn't powerful at all for multitasking and productive work since it packs a beefy i7-4500U and 8 GB of RAM. One interesting thing is that the RAM's clock is shown as 20,307 Mhz (just a peculiar discovery). After installing all the updates form Sony Vaio care (which I don't recommend to uninstall), all the old problems such as sketchy wifi and fans blaring are gone. Wireless is extremely stable, wide in range and fast and the fan only spins up when streaming 4K and 1080P videos. Sure, I wish the fan noise can be more subtle, but it is nothing one should be worried about in the classroom or library since it never even grunts a noise when I'm there. I do not game on this laptop but I figure y'all can find adequate reviews online. The screen is also an absolute joy to watch videos on, no matter streaming or through a DVD. The color gamut is about 22 percent larger than my series 9 and the blacks are way darker too. The keyboard is way better than my series 9 in terms of the feel though the touchpad is somehow lacking due to the fact that it isn't glass. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase.
Btw, silver, though not as professional looking as black, gives it a premium feel with the keyboard backlight on.

The first machine came with a problem on the LCD screen - a white line down the left part of the screen - which was promptly exchanged without much hassle.

Now I am facing an issue with the intermittent wifi connection. I lose connection for a minute every now and then. I know it is not a router problem, because I check with another machine. After reinstalling wifi drivers, the problem seemed to go away, until the day before yesterday. I have sent the machine for a checkup and have not heard back from them. I will update the review once I hear back from them.

Pro's
Instant start up. quite a fast machine (I have lots of files and pages on my browsers open, and the memory of this machine seems to handle it well.
Touchscreen is great. Though it takes some time to learn, and there are youtube help videos, once mastered, win8 does not seem to be a big deal.
the keyboard light is good and bad - in low light it is wonderful, but once it is darker, the keyboard light reflects on the screen which is a nuisance.

Cons,
Keyboard light in dark places
Machine heats up quite fast.
Wifi issue? ( i thought only the lenovo's had this problem!!!)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?)
First, let me say that this laptop is gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised how nice the white color looks on this laptop. The color is more of a Pearl white and looks very elegant and gives a very good impression at first glance. This device is plastic, and not the aluminum trim model. Still, the fit and finish is superb, and definitely Sony quality. The buttons are great quality and the backlit keyboard is stunning behind the white keys. The buttons have a great feel to them, and a nice, soft click. The screen is also of great quality. Very bright with good contrast ratio. The machine is a solid piece of hardware.

The i7 processor keeps up very well when multitasking, but can become QUICKLY bogged down when making multiple downloads. I was a little surprised that the machine slowed down as much as it did, but I feel this is more a function (or limitation) of the HDD than the processor. The fan runs very quiet and minimal heat is felt from the laptop, though it does heat up pretty fast. The touchscreen also works flawlessly.

There are a few important issues with the laptop that keep it from becoming a player, in my opinion. The main issue being the touch pad on the device. The pad does not register any clicks on the right side of the pad. It does, however, register scrolling, etc. At first, I thought the pad was designed this way, until I realized after using the laptop for an hour how frustrating it was to click on the touch pad and not get a response. I did all the necessary updates, including the bios update, and even tried to reinstall the touch pad software with no success. I called Sony, spent an hour on the phone with their technician, and received no help with the issue. I'd say about 75% of the touch pad works great. The right side of the pad did not work out of the box. Another issue is battery life. I'm getting about 2.5 hours at 50% brightness with a balanced power plan. I was expecting a bit more. The WIFI has been a bit sporadic, but lately it seems to have become a bit more stable.

I guess I was expecting a bit more from a Sony laptop that retails in the $800+ range. I recently purchased a mid range Aluminum laptop for my wife that is on par with this one for hundreds less, plus the quality controls were much better on her laptop. This laptop does not include a hybrid drive, which would help speed things up a bit. My wife's laptop has a hybrid drive. I think at this price point, you can find a much better laptop that will give you better performance out of the box.

UPDATE: After spending another hour on the phone with the Sony technician, I was asked to send the Vaio in for repair. The return process is very smooth and Sony pays for overnight shipping, as well. Thanks to Sony for the good service after the initial call, though it is always a little disappointing when you have to send in a brand new device for repair. But it does happen. I will have the laptop back in 10 business days, and will update this review if the issue is not corrected.

I was a bit unsure when I went to buy this computer, but now that I have it, I love it. Many of the complaints that I had read about, I googled them and found a solution for most of it and I'm really happy with this purchase. The touchscreen is awesome and I love Windows 8, yes it's confusing at first but along with the computer comes a little Windows 8 tutorial that shows you the basics. The backlit keyboard is not as bad as people say, its really helpful actualy. Also, you can fix the sensitivity of the trackpad so its not jumping all around & when people say that the right side of their trackpad doesn't work, its because that's your right clicker (the one that brings up the drop down menu)so you just have to get used to clicking on the left side when you want to select something, and if you can't get used to that, then just tap it, the touchscreen is great. I haven't had problems with my wifi, it's actually been working great. I'm super happy with my purchase, and if you have any questions about anything, you cant go wrong by googling it, or if you're thinking about buying it and haven't yet, comment on this post & ask whatever you're debating about so maybe I can help clarify.
p.s DataVision is a great company, the delivery got here sooner than expected. ALSO! I thought this was the aluminum model, but I'm really happy with the plastic model, it looks very sleek.
I would definitely recommend this Laptop to a friend.

This review is from: Sony VAIO T Series SVT13124CXS 13.3-Inch Touch Ultrabook (Silver) (Personal Computers)
Pros:
Portable
Fast
TOUCH SCREEN!
Fun to use
Multi Touch Trackpad
No heat issues..yet

Cons:
Only 2 USB Ports
No CD Drive
No Back lit Keyboard

I am a full time student, so I am on my laptop off and on all day. The SSD is VERY useful for someone who constantly turns their computer on and off. Boot times are only a few seconds long, and the computer doesn't lag at all once you unlock it. Apps are also pretty fast to load. (2-3 seconds)

I was skeptical of the i3 processor, but it has worked flawlessly so far. But after finding out that it was a 3rd gen and a dual core, I felt more secure. I usually have at least four or so tabs open at once. Loading facebook, playing videos off youtube, having multiple tabs for homework, and running couple apps, while on the charger and with full brightness. I am happy to say that I have noticed no speed problems or lag, even with multiple youtube videos playing at once and a few other tabs open too. I havnt tried any photo or video editing or 3D games, but I probably will in the near future. But to be fair, this laptop isnt made for gamers anyway. Also, I havnt experienced any heating problems yet, other than just slightly warm.

The trackpad is very easy to use, and It closely resembles that of one on a Mac Book. The multi touch is a big plus for me, for scrolling though web pages and such. But, this laptop truly shines with the touch screen. Windows 8 is basically made to be used with tablet, so I really diddnt want to upgrade unless I had a touch screen. But I will say, using Windows 8 on this touchscreen is an absolute blast! It's just plain fun to play with. Its basically like having a tablet with a full keyboard. The touch screen is by far my favorite feature, and I have had no problems with it yet.

There aren't as many ports on this laptop as I would like, but that is an easy fix. It only has 2 USB ports, and I use a wireless mouse for one and the other is switched between my phone charger and a flash drive. But, a $6 adapter thingy will add ports instantly, so that's not a big deal. Also, the no CD drive is a bit of a con, but again, those can be found on Amazon for around $30. This laptop does have a VGA port, which I use for my dual monitor. The other ultrabooks dont have one, so that was a definite plus. My last con was that there isn't a back lit keyboard, but after talking to sales representatives at Staples, they all said that the back lit keyboard was just another thing to malfunction and I should stay away from them anyway. Out of the 4 they sold recently (6 months or less), all 4 came back with keyboard problems.

I purchased this ultrabook through Staples, where it was on sale for $700 instead of the original $850. I am very happy with my purchase, and just wanted to post a review because I was having trouble finding some myself. So far, this laptop has been lighting fast and very fun to play with. I found one at a good price, jumped on it, and am happy I did so. Not to mention that my friends with the Macs can't stop playing with it :p

Sony i5 Ultrabook.

I have been using an old Sony laptop from 2009, which I traded-in at Sony store.
I know that Sony's very reliable, so I decided to go with it again!
Overall I am very happy. I will make this review very concise and easy to read

LIKE's

* Design - extremely sexy, aluminum housing is a plus
* Price - great price for an ultrabook! especially because I traded-in my old laptop.
* Keyboard - very friendly arrangement, nice feel
* Trackpad - somewhat a copy of a MacBook trackpad. it's really easy to use (but you'll have to get used to it) and multi-touch gestures are convenient
* Extremely fast boot-up and shut-down
* Very light - almost feels like a feather compared to my old laptop. very portable
* Screen size - I come from a bigger-screen 15.6-inch laptop. So I was skeptical, but I find the screen size to be perfectly fine. It is not small. Good size for basic computing (no gaming, etc.)
* Small adapters make it easy to carry around

DON'T LIKES

* Battery life - while it can go for ~5 hours, the screen needs to be dimmed half way
* Screen - I am not sure why, but pictures seem too bright.
* Takes too long to sleep (under sony's rapid-wake function)
* Speakers are only decent. Nothing too fancy
* Battery is extremely difficult to remove (you need to unscrew with a coin, but it's hard to turn)

OTHER THINGS
* Only 2 USBs (fine for me, but maybe a problem for others)
* Very minimal number of peripheral ports (VGA, Ethernet, HDMI, audio, 2 USBs) - makes laptop appear simple but maybe a problem for others

Overall I am very happy with my purchase!

I have had multiple laptops, i had an HP with died with in 2 days after the warranty expired, then a gateway almost same thing occurred. I bough my others old sony vaio wich she used for 3 years, i have used it 1 year before buying this new sony vaio.
Its a great entry level ultrabook. I have already put in some software and apps and the computer is very responsive. I am still getting used to win8.

PROS:

Great Computer for the bucks
13.3 HD screen
+5 Hour Battery Time
Fast Boot up from shutdown and sleep
Aluminum Finish
Multitouch TrackPad (very useful one u get the hag of it)
Light to carry around
Charging Mode for USB (can charge usb hardware like smartphones even if the computer is turned off)

CONS:
Only 2 USB (3.0 and 2.0)
Speakers are weak and sound is not clear under high volume
Some bloatware installed
No MIC in or line in for video conferencing or audio ( you are stuck with included mic)

If you can live with the minor limitations this computer has, this should be a great purchase, its a fast responsive computer with great features for its price.

THIS IS NOT THE VAIO FIT 14.
Perhaps due to some confusion on Amazon's end (or else deceptive practices) this product has been mislabeled as being the Vaio Fit 14-inch variant. This is actually the Vaio Fit E 14-inch variant. This E (basically for economy, or entry-level) means this is slightly fatter and made of matte plastic. This true Fit 14 laptop you'll find on Sony's website is a much more professional, thin aluminum-frame laptop. In truth, Sony should take some of the blame for naming two laptops made from totally different materials and components so similarly (Fit/Fit E) but I just wanted to warn anyone else before they purchase the incorrect laptop.

Got one for my daughter last July and still waiting for Sony's fix on the built-in wi-fi. Tested it in 3mbps Manila, in 100 mbps Tokyo and in 20 mbps Houston - and it just sucks everywhere! I am seriously contemplating on buying that $22 Intel WiFi Card and request Sony Service Center to replace that horrible Broadcom wi-fi chip, or perhaps I can pay a 3rd party computer shop to do it for me. Last resort, I can probably do the replacement myself with the proper tools.

I recently bought another new laptop (Toshiba) for myself and one of the main checklist items is the built-in wifi card. Thankfully, it has an Intel card and it's simply amazing! When I saw a young lady checking a Fit 14 unit intently in a major consumer electronics store, I warned her immediately about the wi-fi issue. Of all laptop functions that may not work well, this is totally unacceptable!

Perhaps one of the most stupid opinions I heard about this issue is from a Sony Store staff who said that the wi-fi issue is probably attributable to the low-power CPUs of the newer models (but then I have already tried disabling all power saving settings of the Fit 14 and the wi-fi card itself). And he further explained that he wasn't surprised at all that a 3-year old Vaio (my daughter's older laptop) running on i3 is faster than current gen Vaio i5s or i7s in terms of wi-fi. What???

Could have been 5 stars if not for this serious defect. Looks so sleek!

I had to give it one star in order to post this but it deserves a zero. I bought this at bestbuy and it does have Wi-Fi defect. I have installed every driver known to man including the new ones recommended by Sony. it will not stay connected to the internet. You have to restart the PC to get a reconnection. It is a piece of junk: Buyers beware.

Well designed and nicely priced. The processor is nice and fast with the "turbo" feature makes this a great mid level laptop that works as fast as a expensive +$1000.00 laptop. I use it for making music and DJing and I have had NO CRASHES nor problems. I highly recommend this laptop. HDMI port; Three USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0; Start up is very fast! Dual core makes switching programs or working on two programs at once easy and fast. Doesn't heat up to my surprise, you could actually have it on your lap for long periods at a time and does not cause discomfort. The built in speakers are ok for personal use, do not expect it to blow the roof of or fill a living room. Back lit keyboard is nice and can be adjusted to turn off if not in use for "X" amount of time that you tell it to. Battery consumption is ABOUT RIGHT... The Win 8 OS is pretty cool once you get used to the "APP" style of working with the laptop... I recommend not to but the extended warr. with anyone other than SONY since they offer it cheaper and you know it will be good since it is direct... Anyways I recommend this laptop hands down... Thanks, I hope this helped... ~ DJ George Farjeat

The product arrived in perfect condition. I have owned Sony Vaio's before and love their aesthetic look and also their functionality, the only con to Vaio's is the fact that they are very fragile so I would recommend it for someone who can actually take a lot of care of them. The operating system is fantastic, windows 8 is better than windows 7 or vista or any other OS you might have seen before. It does have a visual impact at first that might scare a lot of people, but its simple to use once you get used to it. The lack of a start menu is not big deal, the start menu has simply become the metro "app" looking start screen of win 8. Most programs run on a windows 8 view mode, if you do not like that view you can easily switch it over to "desktop mode" (same view as win 7) such as with Google chrome. For some programs where you cant switch such as Skype there are two versions of it, you can have the win 8 version of Skype or the "desktop" version of it. As for speed, the computer, processor and RAM is marvelous. I have not tried playing games on it but my old Sony Vaio ran FEAR 2 and COD so I am pretty sure this new one with higher specs must run it perfectly wit no lag. So far the screen has an amazing resolution, the keyboard feels smooth to the touch, the computer fan is quiet and it does not over heat. I bought this computer for college and it seems it will be simply perfect! This computer is simply marvelous for the price it has!

When I got this laptop, it was unbelievably awesome! First, I like the color. Instead of black, Sony had multiple colors laid out for customers to choose in their favor. Second, the resolution quality. When I watch movie, I feel like I don't need the blue ray since the quality of the screen is so great! This laptop is also quiet and super fast.
The keyboard is smooth.. I just cannot live without this laptop.
The only thing it needs to be fixed is probably the camera from Windows 8.
Anyway, I have no regret to choose this pink Sony laptop because it seems no different from Mac, and it is lot cheaper.

This is a great ultrabook. It's fast for non-gaming tasks. I haven't tried games, but I have my doubts. HD streaming and having many apps open still doesn't slow this thing down.

The 4GB ram is barely enough for the laptop, however. You NEED to upgrade to 8GB before you can treat it like a normal laptop which means opening everything you can think of, multitasking, etc.

The touchscreen works great with Windows 8.

Please do yourself a favor and uninstall the builtin Sony branded apps... They just slow the computer down and eat up memory.

I just purchased the touchscreen version of this bad boy and I couldn't be more pleased. Very lightweight but doesn't over heat, sleek design and the power it packs is perfect for someone like me who uses it for basic, everyday use. The speakers pack a punch and windows 8 take a quick review to really use it to it's full potential. The screen can be a little sensitive so I end up bringing up things I didn't intend to when I actually use my fingers to navigate the touch screen, but I chalk that up to operator error. So far, very happy with my purchase.

Pros:
-lightweight
-powerful enough for daily tasks
-doesn't get hot
-decent battery life
-quick start-up time

Cons:
-the keys are spread pretty far apart

I'm a full time college student so I am on my computer a lot. I bought this computer because of how light it was compared to my old one. I am very pleased with it. The only thing that takes come getting used to is how spread out the keys are. If you've never had a computer with an island keyboard before this will be a little different for you, like it was for me. But after about a week you get used to it. Its been very reliable so far and overall I am very pleased.

While the laptop looks great (aesthetics and awesome picture), a couple of design flaws make it tough to keep. The first problem is that the wrist rest area gets very hot; there doesn't seem to be any thermal insulation separating the surface and the CPU inside. Second, the wifi connection works intermittently. Never had this issue at home with my other computers. And I see from the Sony site that many others are experiencing this.

This is a very nice laptop. It looks and feels far more expensive that what it actually is. The boot time is around 10 seconds, which I must say I truly enjoy as I am now departing from my aging HP and Asus laptops. The backlit feature is great for low light or night time and the screen is great. The only complaint I would say it the bloatware that comes with it. I used the Sony Update feature to update all drivers and it made the keyboard unusable so I would say uninstall and be weary, trust updating from Windows Update only. although this is not the touchscreen version, the interface is very fluid, and even thought Windows 8 has that terrible learning curve, it is still a great laptop. I definately recommend this laptop as a "back to school" laptop as it has both the capacity to serve as a work and entertainment laptop. :-)

I liked the size and the screen was good but these new mouse pads are terrible 1 hour into it I wanted to throw the computer out the window. The mouse pad had no right or left click buttons and there was no control with the cursor at all. If your going to get a Sony Vaio I recommend the i5 processor the i3 is a little to basic and slow for me but could do well for someone who just looks up e-mail and browses the web. I also loved the illuminated keyboards, all laptops should have this feature most people use there laptops all the time and that would be good to see on more models in the future. Also get a computer that has windows 7, windows 8 is garbage.

I have always purchased HP laptops in the past, but wanted to go with something new from an aesthetic standpoint. It's very light, but has tons of memory/features/power. And for the price, you can't beat it.

Two things i have found a bit annoying:

1) The Touchpad is very, very sensitive. Not sure if this can be adjusted, if so, haven't figured out how yet. But it tends to not "release" resulting in pages re-sizing, programs switching, etc. unintentionally.

2) When running the web browser (I use Chrome), it will periodically "lose" the network connection. The network will still be there and active (you can access it on other devices), but you have to disconnect from the network and re-connect for it to work again. I'm sure this is a bug that has or will be fixed soon.

This computer fits the bill as lighter and has more capacity that my current 15 inch Dell.

I needed more memory and faster speeds for picture storage while traveling.

Not too enthralled with the Windows 8 version, but need to get familiar with it.

Sony VAIO E14 Series SVE14122CXB 14-Inch Deals

We purchased this laptop October 30th, 2012. We would have given this product 5 stars if not for the problems we have had with getting it to turn on. We were very happy with the smaller 14" screen, how lightweight it was, user-friendly, seemed to have a long battery life and we loved the way the keyboard lit up when any key was pressed. Here is the one major problem we've had. We have had this laptop less than 2wks. and we have had nothing but problems getting the laptop to turn on after going into hibernation, sleep and after being shut down. We have tried everything. We made sure the battery was fully charged, took the battery out and reinserted. We tried googling the problem to see how others fixed this problem and even called Sony Vaio Support. One time it would turn on, the next time it wouldn't turn on at all. We repeated the process all over again and sometimes that would work, but more often not. We are feeling very frustrated & disappointed. We have decided to exchange this laptop for a replacement of this exact model and hope the one we are returning is just a fluke. Aside from the problems we have had with this laptop not turning on, we have been happy with this laptop and would recommend this model to others.

The screen is bright, clear yet easy to read in environments with overhead lights like a library. It does not have glare problems to the extent my HP Pavilion does. The keyboard has good ergonomics and layout with no distracting flex. Backlighting is helpful in low light situations. Battery life is excellent. I was in a four hour meeting taking notes with Outlook receiving messages the entire time. The battery life showed 50% and another four hours remaining at the end! The synaptics touch pad works great once one does two things:
1) Turn off tapping in the device settings. I don't know why tapping is enabled by default on most laptops with touchpads. For the vast majority of people it just makes using a touch pad much more difficult.
2) Become adjusted to the button positions which are under the single large touch pad towards the bottom.

Windows ReadyBoost improves disk performance. I am using a SanDisk Extreme 16 GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Flash Memory Card 45MB/s SDSDX-016G-X46 which I formatted as exFat.

Here is the first issue I had with a fix:
Machine: Sony VAIO E Series SVE14122CXW with windows 8
Problem: DVD drive not recognized in explorer or device manager.
Attempted to configure for auto play and inserted valid DVDs to no avail.
Sony support via online chat thought it was a hardware problem and I would need to return machine. Having dealt with HP, Toshiba and Dell support over the years I have found you don't get people with in depth knowledge and troubleshooting ability doing support. I tried some different things on my own and found a fix.
FIX:
1) Put bootable DVD in machine (like windows 7 bootable install media)
2) Power machine down
3) Wait 1 minute then power up
4) Keep hitting spacebar during boot
5) When windows 8 starts, it recognizes the drive and remembers it going forward!

What looked like a Sony hardware problem was more likely a Windows 8 problem.

I loved this computer. After doing lots of research looking for a computer to suit my needs I settled for the Sony Vaio E series. The keyboard is phenomenal - Beautiful backlighting (a novelty to me), no keyboard flex (great because I type frequently and quickly), and the keys themselves were awesome. The screen was very bright - An all around very attractive computer. Startup time was also great... UNTIL:
Within 24 hours of having this computer I started noticing glitches within the mousepad. Very frustrating. Also, after stalling Windows 8 "updates" my computer completely crashed. I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support while my brand new PC had to completely reset. Needless to say it was a nightmare. It just froze on the start screen and wouldn't work even after restarting!

Finally, though I realize this is not Sony's fault -- My initial excitement was detracted by the fact that I soon noticed there was a small, but undoubtedly worsening crack in the plastic material surrounding the black trim of the computer. There were actually some wires exposed. Also, upon arrival the keyboard was popped out of place - While this is insignificant because ultimately the keyboard was fine, it is extremely frustrating that Amazon ships their products in these states.

Ultimately, I wish Sony should have kept their Windows 7 E series around a little longer.. Definitely avoid.

This is a very nice little computer. Beforeit I had a mini HP pink and I always loved small laptops. My last laptop worked for 2 years and still working but battery is not charging anymore. Instead get a new battery I though would be nice after 2 years buying a new laptop and I choose this one. Its a great computer, has windows 8 which Im still learning how to use it, and works great. Doesnt not have cd/dvd but my last one didnt have either, for me is not a big deal. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the battery...I would charge the computer all night long and battery life is only 3-4 hours without being plugged...my last computer would stay all day with battery no needed charge. That is only my concern. But I guess the description is right so maybe is not a big deal for a lot ppl that may use the laptop plugged in the charge. My general experience with this little one is being great. I would recommend it for all ppl that is looking for a nice looking, good functional and very easy to carry out laptop!!! Thumbs up!!!

I have been using this Laptop for about a week. For the price, it's a very good,
very fast little laptop.

Because it's only 11.5 inches-the picture is extremely crisp. Comes with 750GB and 4GB's of memory. Very quick. Boots up fast. I take this laptop everywhere.

Also-this is a very good looking, sleek laptop. All white-with black screen. Back-lit keyboard too. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Also-Amazon delivered to me in 2 days.

I have had the Windows 7 version of this laptop for about a year now and all-in-all have been quite happy with it.

I bought the laptop to serve me as a basic travel laptop. It replaced an over-sized Dell that weighs nearly 12 lbs (with AC charger). The Dell was breaking my back!

The Sony is in the 3 lb range and met my expectations right out of the box.

Now, admittedly, I have made some costly (and perhaps foolish) improvements to the laptop after the fact. I maxed the RAM to 8 gb and added a 500 gb static hdd. Doing so certainly improved the performance. There is barely any heat produced, boot time is under 25 seconds and files open / save nearly instantly. Finally, I invested in a super aftermarket battery that pushes the battery life to about 7 hours. I make many day trips without the ac charger.

One could certainly argue that for the price of my improvements I could have invested in a better laptop in the first place. True enough.

However I was so pleased with the basic model's build quality, form factor and standard features (HDMI for one) it was worth the upgrades (for me).

My son has a pricey Macbook Pro and side by side my little (improved) Vaio laptop outperforms his in every way that is important to me.

Very good out of the box. Near great (for my purposes) with the improvements I made.
